Have you seen the episode? My guess on it are either;
1) it is a joke 2) he has been "one" of the Stigs (read that it could be more than one person been the Stig) and that we is "retiring" as one of the Stigs as I also read somewhere that if his identity is revealed in anyway (by him or someone else) then the contract is null and void... or something like that... Yes, that's correct, there are a couple of "Stigs" that TG uses.

I don't really give a sh*t who Stig is. He could probably be any stunt drivers or motorsport star. It is just a gimmick they use to promote the show I reckon.....

Its implied to be an elaborate joke. Plus I don't think Michael can drive other cars since he has a contract with Ferrari.
Also during the end of the show, Michael and 'The Stig' are separately credited. |
